Late Jurassic period, about 152 million years ago.
Apatosaurus was an herbivorous (plant-eating) dinosaur from the late Jurassic period. They are known from fossils from the Morrison Formation of modern-day Colorado, Oklahoma, New Mexico, and Utah.
Apatosaurus had a single claw on each forelimb, and three on each hind limb. Its skull, long thought to be similar to Camarasaurus, is much more similar to that of Diplodocus. Apatosaurus was a generalized browser that likely consumed plants low to the ground.
